APS journals implemented new rigor and reproducibility requirements for all original research submissions beginning in July 2021. Author compliance with the new requirements are being assessed using an Artificial Intelligence tool (SciScore), through a pilot program lasting into 2022. The SciScore report is included with the first decision letter, and authors are asked to revise their manuscript to meet the rigor and reproducibility requirements. After the first quarter of implementation, the Publishing team has noted an improvement in scores on revisions from 4.48 to 4.92, nearly a 0.5 increase between initial submission (n = 652) and revision (n = 229).
