Attrition - What is this?

  • Attrition of subjects during the study (often accompanied by a flow diagram)

    • Required by the MDAR checklist

    • What SciScore expects: A statement reporting the dropout of any subjects or samples.

    • If we find a statement about attrition, then SciScore expects to find the following items (randomization, blinding, power);

    • Example:

      “Of these, 21 ticks could not be removed from the birds and 162 ticks were lost due to technical problems during nucleic acid extraction, resulting in 1,150 ticks available for analysis.”

      “All enrolled participants finished the study, i.e., there was no attrition.” **

      “The attrition rate in our study was 3% (n = 1 participant), which is relatively low for a study of patients with chronic diseases using a fitness tracker.” **

  • Please note, we have just discovered that the sentences with ** are not recognized, because classifier for attrition is not working as expected. We have a fix in place, but will need to work on an updated version of the SciScore tool. We apologize for the inconvenience.
